Canon EOS-7 Eye Control focus not working
Eye Control reads the user's eye against a stored calibration to pick the active AF point, and that calibration can drift or was never set for whoever is holding the camera. When it is off, focus jumps between points or locks onto the wrong one. Check the feature is switched on in the custom functions first; if the fault persists it usually sits with the sensor or its wiring.
Canon EOS-7 shows Err 01
Err 01 flags a break in communication between the body and lens across the EF contacts, on the mount ring or inside the lens itself. It's usually dirt or wear on the contacts rather than a fault in the body's own electronics. Try a different lens, and check the contacts look clean and unmarked, before assuming the camera itself needs attention.
Canon EOS-7 shutter won't fire
This is an electronically timed shutter, so a refusal to fire points to the release circuit or shutter magnet rather than a mechanical jam. A flat or poorly seated battery, or film that hasn't wound on, will show the same symptom, so that's worth ruling out first. If a fresh battery doesn't fix it, the fault is in the shutter's own electronics.
Canon EOS-7 top LCD blank or fading
The top-plate display is a liquid crystal panel, and its segments fade or drop out entirely as the camera ages, particularly with heat or knocks to the connections behind it. It's a display problem rather than proof the metering or shutter electronics have failed, the camera can often still expose correctly with a poor readout. Try a fresh battery first.
Canon EOS-7 light leaks on film
The foam seals around the film door and mirror box perish with age on any camera from this period, and once they compress or crumble, light reaches the film, usually as fogging near the edges of the frame or the start of the roll. It's a wear fault rather than an electronic one. Check the back is closing and latching firmly.
