Excellent coverageThe Kodak Retina line ran from the mid-1930s into the 1960s, built for Kodak in Germany on a folding bellows body with a leaf shutter in the lens barrel. Later models added a coupled rangefinder and, on the highest-spec versions, a selenium meter. Because the body folds and the shutter lives in the lens, the two things that decide a Retina's condition are bellows integrity and shutter health.

Common Kodak Retina faults
Kodak Retina light leak or fogged frames
Fogging, streaks or a soft edge glow on frames, worse in bright conditions, usually means the folding bellows has developed pinholes or a split seam with age. It sits between lens and film so any breach lets light straight onto the frame. Checking it against a bright torch in a dark room with the back open will often show the leak, but the bellows itself needs the workshop's attention.
Kodak Retina shutter sticking or slow speeds sound wrong
A Retina's leaf shutter runs on old lubricant and small springs, so slow speeds are usually the first to drag, hesitate or hang open. Fast speeds sounding the same as slow ones is a classic sign the escapement has gummed up. This is wear, not misuse, and it is common enough on these that it should be assumed rather than diagnosed as a one-off fault.
Kodak Retina rangefinder image faded or doubled
On coupled models, a rangefinder patch that has gone dim, yellow or hard to see against the main viewfinder image usually points to the internal beamsplitter mirror silvering wearing away with age, a well known weakness on cameras this old. A patch that no longer lines up with distance at all suggests the mechanism itself has shifted. Either way the camera can still be focused by scale if needed.
Kodak Retina meter not responding
Metered Retinas use a selenium cell, which needs no battery but weakens with age and UV exposure, so a needle that sits still or reads low in good light is normally the cell itself fading rather than a fault to fix. It is worth checking the meter window isn't in shadow or covered before assuming the cell is gone, since that alone will read as no response.
Kodak Retina won't fold closed or front won't lock open
The front standard rides on struts that snap into place when the bellows is drawn out, and worn or bent struts can leave it feeling loose, slow to lock, or reluctant to fold flush again. This is a mechanical wear issue in the strut and latch assembly rather than anything electrical, and it is common on Retinas that have had decades of use.
