This points to the flex cable carrying signals from the back panel buttons to the exposure system, a known weak spot here because of how tightly it folds inside the body. Once it cracks the camera loses several back panel functions at once, flash off, exposure compensation, date and self timer, not just one. It is a wiring fault, so a fresh battery will not bring them back.

On models with a data back, a blank or fading LCD usually traces back to the same flex cable running from the back panel to the main board, or to the display's own contacts working loose with age. It affects the date and self timer readout rather than exposure, so the camera can still take a properly exposed frame underneath a dead screen. Worth trying a fresh battery first.
Konica Big Mini shutter sticking or slow
A shutter that hesitates, fires late, or leaves frames too dark or too light usually means old lubricant inside the shutter and aperture has thickened and is dragging on the blades. It is mechanical rather than electrical, and it tends to worsen with use rather than improve. Left long enough the blades can stick fully open or closed, ruining a whole roll. Fresh batteries make no difference here.

It can also be a film door that reads as closed without being fully latched. Checking the door is properly seated is worth doing before assuming a motor fault.
