Olympus mju Zoom 115 barrier won't open or close properly
The sliding front barrier is spring-and-latch driven, and on this model that means a dedicated latch lever, latch spring and barrier switch that all have to agree before the camera will wake up or the lens will retract. A barrier that sticks half-open, won't click home, or leaves the camera dead until you jiggle it usually means that latch mechanism or its switch, not the lens itself. Check nothing is physically snagging the cover first.
Olympus mju Zoom 115 zoom grinds or won't rack in and out
The zoom is motor-driven through a small gear train, so a lens that hesitates, grinds, or stalls partway through its travel is usually a wear or lubrication issue in that train rather than the motor itself failing outright. It is a common wear point on the higher zoom ratio in this range, since there is more travel and more gearing than the base mju. A dead battery gives the same symptom, so start there.
Olympus mju Zoom 115 won't fire the shutter
A camera that powers up and focuses but won't release usually points to the shutter release switch or the logic that gates it, such as an unfinished wind cycle or a barrier that isn't reporting fully open. It's rarely the shutter blades themselves at this stage. Confirm the film has wound on and the barrier is properly latched open before assuming it's a fault.

The frame counter and mode display run off a dedicated LCD panel, and these commonly develop missing or ghosted segments with age, sometimes going fully blank while the camera still fires normally. It's a cosmetic and informational fault rather than a mechanical one, so the camera can often still be used, just without a reliable readout. It doesn't affect exposure or film advance.
Olympus mju Zoom 115 flash won't fire or is weak
Flash output on this camera depends on a capacitor charging fully before the shutter is allowed to fire, and a weak, dim, or entirely absent flash usually traces back to that capacitor losing capacity with age rather than the flash tube itself. This is a wear-driven fault on cameras of this age and tends to get worse, not better. A fresh battery rules out the obvious cause before anything else is suspected.
Olympus mju Zoom 115 dies or resets randomly
The battery contacts and their seal sit exposed to knocks and corrosion, and a poor connection there will present as the camera cutting out, resetting its counter, or refusing to wake, even with a good battery fitted. It reads like a dead camera but is often just a contact fault rather than failed electronics underneath. Cleaning contact corrosion is a bench job, but check the battery is seated and fresh first.
