The shutter release on this body is electronically triggered rather than a pure mechanical linkage, so exhausted batteries or a fault in the firing circuit can stop the camera dead rather than just knocking out the meter. Worth trying a fresh pair of cells first. If it still won't trip, the fault is in the release electronics and needs the top off to trace.

It's one of the easier faults to confirm yourself, the door seals will look crumbly or powdery rather than soft. It doesn't point to a deeper fault on its own.
