Olympus OM-20 shutter won't fire
Because the shutter is electronically timed rather than spring-released, a dead or corroded battery is the most common cause and the first thing worth ruling out. If a fresh cell makes no difference, the fault usually sits in the shutter release circuit or the electromagnets that hold and trip the blades, which is a bench job rather than a battery job.
Olympus OM-20 exposures come out badly over or under
This points at the off-the-film metering circuit rather than the lens or the film. On an aperture-priority camera like this one, the meter sets the shutter speed automatically, so a drifting or intermittent metering circuit shows up as consistently wrong exposures across a whole roll rather than one bad frame. Worth checking the ASA dial is actually set to the film speed loaded before assuming a fault.
Olympus OM-20 shutter speeds seem inconsistent or the shutter drags
An electronically timed shutter that fires at the wrong speed, or hesitates on slower settings, points to the shutter's control circuit or the magnets and blades it drives rather than anything the user can adjust. It tends to worsen gradually rather than fail outright, so a camera that 'used to be fine' but now looks inconsistent on different speeds is a genuine bench fault, not user error.
Olympus OM-20 viewfinder meter display is dim, flickering or blank
The finder needle or LED readout runs off the same battery-fed circuit as the meter, so a weak or dirty battery contact is the obvious first check. If a known-good battery seated properly doesn't restore a steady reading, the fault is in the display circuit or its wiring rather than the cell, and exposure accuracy is likely affected too.
Olympus OM-20 film advance lever feels stiff or won't wind on
The lever should move through its stroke smoothly and cock the shutter as it goes, so binding, unusual resistance or a wind that doesn't advance the frame counter suggests a problem in the wind and shutter-cocking mechanism rather than the film itself. Worth confirming the camera isn't simply at the end of the roll before treating it as a fault.
