Olympus OM-2N eats batteries fast
This body is known for draining a fresh pair of cells in days rather than months. The usual causes are a protection diode across the battery terminals breaking down, a pinched wire at the battery box, or the main power switch failing to open fully when the camera is put away. Confirm it isn't just the meter left switched on before assuming a fault.
Olympus OM-2N won't fire, meter dead
No meter reading and no shutter response together point at the power circuit itself, not the exposure electronics further down the chain. Current isn't reaching the switching IC or the meter board at all, usually from the battery contacts, the switch plate at the top, or a broken feed wire. Worth trying a fresh pair of batteries first, as low voltage can look identical.
Olympus OM-2N shutter operates only on B
If the shutter only fires on the bulb setting and the meter and battery check are otherwise fine, the fault sits with the main switch that signals the mirror rising, or the wire feeding it. That switch tells the exposure circuit when to take over, and without it the shutter has no timing signal to work from at all. This is an electrical fault, not a shutter mechanism one.
Olympus OM-2N shutter hangs open or runs slow in every mode
A shutter that lags or sticks open in both auto and manual, with the meter reading correctly, points to the shutter magnet or the timing capacitor circuit that governs how long the shutter stays open. Dirty magnet faces are one cause, a failing capacitor or driving transistor is another. Worth a look before assuming the shutter blades themselves are at fault.
Olympus OM-2N slow or sticking shutter in auto only
When manual speeds are fine but auto exposures run long or hang, the fault is isolated to the auto-mode switching and the off-the-film metering path rather than the shutter mechanism, since manual proves the blades and magnet work. This usually means a contact or component specific to the auto circuit. Check the A/M switch is seating properly in Auto before ruling that out.
Olympus OM-2N meter needle wrong or not moving
The viewfinder meter runs on a completely separate circuit from the exposure electronics, so a dead or inaccurate needle with normal shutter operation is a meter-side fault, typically the CdS cells, their wiring, or the linearising resistors around the galvanometer. It rarely indicates a shutter problem is coming. Try fresh batteries and check the meter switch is set to Auto or Manual, not Off.
