Common Olympus OM707 faults
Olympus OM707 autofocus won't lock
Hunting or refusing to confirm focus points to the AF module or its drive coupling rather than the lens itself, especially if it happens with more than one lens. Low light and low contrast subjects will always be harder for this system, so worth trying it on a plain, well lit subject first. If it still won't confirm, it's an AF system fault and usually not minor.
Olympus OM707 won't turn on or fire
This body runs its shutter, meter and film transport off the battery, so a dead or weak cell is the first suspect and worth ruling out with a fresh one before anything else. If fresh batteries make no difference, the fault sits in the internal electronics or the power switch contacts, and that's a proper bench job rather than a quick fix.
Olympus OM707 LCD panel blank or missing segments
A display that's gone dark, patchy or is missing whole segments is a common age fault on this generation of electronic Olympus bodies, usually the panel itself or its connection degrading rather than anything you did. The camera can sometimes still be metering and firing correctly underneath a failed display, so it's worth confirming the shutter still fires before assuming the worst.
Olympus OM707 flash won't pop up or fire
The built-in flash is motor-deployed and electronically triggered, so a failure to pop up or fire can be the release mechanism, the charging circuit or a dead cell behind it. Check the battery is fresh and seated properly first. If the flash still stays down or fails to fire once up, it points to the flash mechanism itself.
Olympus OM707 motor wind noisy or jammed
Film transport on this body is fully motorised, so grinding, stalling or a wind that starts and stops mid-frame usually means wear or binding in the drive train rather than a film loading mistake. Confirm the film is loaded and seated correctly first, since a poorly loaded cassette can mimic a mechanical fault. Persistent grinding or a stall most frames in is a transport issue.
Olympus OM707 exposures inconsistent or wrong
Frames coming back consistently too light or dark, or varying oddly between shots, points to the metering or exposure electronics rather than user error, particularly if it happens across different lenses and lighting. Confirm the mode dial is set where you expect and the lens is seated correctly first. Beyond that it's a metering or shutter timing fault that needs the camera checked properly.
