Zeiss Ikon Contaflex shutter won't fire
A Contaflex that won't fire almost always points to the leaf shutter or its cocking linkage rather than anything electrical, since the mechanism is fully mechanical. Old lubricant inside the shutter housing stiffens with age and can jam the blades or block the cocking stroke. Confirm the film wind lever is fully advanced first, that alone locks many of these out. If it still won't trip, it's a shutter job.
Zeiss Ikon Contaflex slow speeds sticking or hanging
Slow speeds that hang, drag or stick on a Contaflex are the classic sign of old lubricant migrating across the leaf shutter blades and gumming the escapement that times the delay. Fast speeds often still sound fine because they don't lean on that mechanism as hard, so the fault can sit unnoticed until a longer exposure is tried. Nothing to check without opening it, this one needs the shutter serviced.
Zeiss Ikon Contaflex meter reading wrong or dead
A meter that reads low, high or not at all on a Contaflex usually means the selenium cell has faded with age, there's no battery to swap in as a fix. Selenium output drops gradually, so an accurate meter can go quietly wrong rather than fail outright. Check the meter's coupling or on/off ring is set first. If the needle won't move at all, the cell has had it.

If the viewfinder goes black and stays dark after firing, the mirror hasn't returned, which points to the return spring or the linkage tying mirror movement to the shutter's cocking cycle. Shutter, mirror and cocking are all mechanically linked on a Contaflex, so a mirror fault is rarely isolated, it usually means the whole cocking mechanism needs attention. Winding on sometimes frees it briefly, but the fault comes back.
Zeiss Ikon Contaflex front lens element won't unscrew
Contaflex models used a front-component lens system where only the front element changes rather than the whole lens, and after decades those elements can seize in their threads from corrosion or old grease. A stuck front element isn't a shutter or meter fault, it's specific to the lens mount and doesn't affect anything else on the camera. Don't force it, a seized thread pushed too hard can strip or crack.
