Good coverageThe Praktica EE2 is a late 1970s East German SLR from Pentacon, built on the familiar Praktica L body but adding fully automatic electronic exposure control on top of the existing metal-blade vertical shutter. Its behaviour on the bench is governed almost entirely by two things: the electronic bridge circuit that calculates exposure time from the CdS cell, aperture and film speed, and the electric contacts that carry the aperture value from lens to body. Faults tend to sit in one of those two places rather than in the mechanics of the shutter itself.

Common Praktica EE2 faults
Praktica EE2 shutter won't fire
On this camera the shutter release is gated by the exposure electronics, so a dead camera is as likely to be electrical as mechanical. The automatic circuit has to complete its measuring and storage cycle before the magnet lets the shutter run, and a fault anywhere in that chain, or a flat or absent battery, will stop the release cold. Worth trying a fresh cell first, but a lifeless shutter on this model usually means the control circuit needs the bench.
Praktica EE2 exposures come out wrong on automatic
In automatic mode the exposure time is set by a bridge circuit balancing the CdS cell against the aperture and film speed settings, fed back through a pair of LEDs and a second photoresistor. Drift in any of these elements shows up as consistently over or under exposed frames rather than random misses. It points to the metering bridge itself, not the shutter blades, and is a job for the meter and feedback loop rather than anything the shutter mechanism needs.
Praktica EE2 viewfinder meter needle stuck or not moving
The time scale shown in the finder is driven by the same electronic loop that sets the shutter, so a needle that won't move, or sits pinned at one end, usually means the bridge isn't balancing rather than a jammed pointer. It's worth confirming the meter switch is actually engaged and the battery is good before assuming a fault, but a needle that stays dead with fresh power is an electronics symptom.
Praktica EE2 stuck on one shutter speed regardless of setting
If every frame comes out at the same speed no matter what the meter suggests or what's dialled in, the electronic timing stage isn't being reached and the shutter is likely defaulting to a fixed mechanical speed as a fallback. This points squarely at the control circuit rather than the shutter blades or gears, which are only doing what they're told.
Praktica EE2 aperture not stopping down properly
This body reads the lens's aperture setting electrically, through gold-plated contacts between lens and mount, rather than purely mechanically. Exposures that are consistently wrong with one lens but fine with another, or a diaphragm that hangs open, often trace back to those contacts or the coupling behind them rather than the shutter or the lens itself. Worth checking the lens seats and locks fully before assuming a fault inside the body.
